Version 1.0
Deemak Tantra ("we", "the movement", "the Website") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and the rights you have over it. It is written to comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) and to be honest about our practices.
1. Scope of This Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected through https://deemaktantra.org/ and any subpages of the Website. It does not apply to information collected offline or through any third-party platform.
2. What We Collect
We collect only the information you voluntarily provide when you fill a form on the Website. Depending on the form, this may include:
- Identity: full name, age range, gender (where asked);
- Contact: email address, mobile number, city, state, country;
- Background: profession, organisation, interests, skills, availability;
- Content: any messages, testimonies, or reports you choose to submit;
- Technical: IP address and basic server logs recorded automatically by our host for security and abuse prevention.
We do not knowingly collect more information than is necessary to serve the movement's purpose.
3. Why We Collect It
Your information is collected and used only for the following purposes:
- to record your support for the movement or a specific demand or campaign;
- to review and (where appropriate) publish testimonies you submit;
- to contact you about volunteering opportunities or team openings;
- to respond to messages you send us;
- to send movement-related updates, if you have opted in;
- to prevent duplicate submissions, spam, and abuse of the Website.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or commercial purposes.
4. Consent
We collect and process your personal information only with your explicit consent, given by the checkbox on the relevant form. You may withdraw your consent at any time by writing to us — see section 11.
Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing that occurred before withdrawal.
5. What We Publish Publicly
By default, nothing you submit is published publicly. However:
- On the support form, if you tick "I consent to my name being displayed publicly," your name may appear in a public list of supporters. Your email, mobile number, and other details are never published.
- On the testimony form, submitted testimonies are reviewed by our moderators before publication. You can also choose to have your testimony published anonymously. When published, only your name (or "Anonymous"), city, state, and the testimony text are shown — never your email or mobile number.
- On the volunteer form, issue report form, and contact form, nothing is ever published publicly. These are private submissions read only by authorized administrators.
6. Who We Share It With
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.
The only exceptions are:
- our web hosting provider, which stores the Website and its database on our behalf;
- where we are legally required to disclose information by a valid order of a competent authority under Indian law.
7. Where Data Is Stored
All personal information is stored on servers located in India, in a MySQL database accessible only to authorized administrators through a secured login.
8. How Long We Keep It
We retain your personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described in section 3, or until you ask us to delete it. Specifically:
- supporter records are kept while the movement is active;
- volunteer applications are kept for up to two years, unless you request deletion earlier;
- contact messages and issue reports are kept for up to one year after they are resolved;
- newsletter subscription is kept until you unsubscribe.
9. Your Rights
Under the DPDP Act, 2023, you have the right to:
- access a summary of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct, update, or delete your personal information;
- withdraw your consent at any time;
- lodge a grievance with us about our handling of your information;
- nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.
To exercise any of these rights, write to us at the email in section 11. We will respond within a reasonable time.
10. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include:
- secure password hashing for all admin accounts;
- prepared database statements to prevent SQL injection;
- output escaping to prevent cross-site scripting (XSS);
- CSRF protection on all forms;
- file upload restrictions to prevent malicious uploads;
- rate limiting to prevent abuse.
No system is perfectly secure. If you become aware of a security issue, please inform us promptly.
11. Cookies
The Website uses only essential session cookies required to make the site function (for example, to preserve your input across a form submission). We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.
If we ever introduce analytics or non-essential cookies, this policy will be updated and you will be notified on your next visit.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Continued use of the Website after changes are posted means you accept the revised policy.
13. Contact and Grievance Officer
For any question, concern, or grievance relating to your personal data, or to exercise any of the rights listed in section 9, please write to:
Email: contact@deemaktantra.org
Please include "Privacy" in the subject line. We will acknowledge your request and respond within a reasonable time.
This policy is written to be honest and minimal. If something is unclear, we'd rather you ask than assume.
